---------------------------------------------------------------- CDP1802's LCT RPK74M ---------------------------------------------------------------- At some point in 2015 or 2016, I couldn't tell you which, I was at a combination swap meet/free play day at my old regular airsoft field. I was looking for a LMG of some sort. Someone tipped me off that a guy had a mildly dead (burnt-out motor) LCT RPK-74M for $100. I bought it, bought a spare stock LCT motor, fixed it up, and started to use it lots. A year or so into using the thing, I wanted to make it legal at a new indoor joint. The stock barrel was swapped for a 510mm TK Twist from my unused TM M16A2, the stock bucking was swapped out with a G&G Green, and the stock spring was downgraded to a SHS M90. Two years into using the thing, I had two issues: That stock LCT motor burnt out and my hop unit, due to me losing the tensioner o-ring, cracked from me overtightning some screws down. I didn't feel like fixing it again, I was more interested in other things at the time, so the gun went into storage. In December of 2024, wanting an IAR for an upcoming event (GGP Snowblind), I had almost forgotten about my RPK and was going to buy another. A buddy of mine saw the site and asked if I still had the old LCT. Good thing he did because a new one was going to be $390! ---------------------------------------------------------------- DECEMBER 9TH, 2024| ------------------- The RPK is out of storage and in my home in its dead state. At the moment, the guts look something like this: * Gearbox: Stock LCT, spring downgraded to SHS M90 * Hop: Stock LCT unit, broken, with G&G Green bucking * Motor: Stock LCT, burnt out * Wiring: Stock LCT, rewired to Deans * Barrel: TK Twist (510mm) Tomorrow, December 10th, I have boxes coming in with the following stuff: * Arcturus M100 spring * ZCI 409mm 6.02mm barrel * LCT hop unit * 2x EMG Atlas, 1x G&G Blue bucking * Paragon 28TPA motor Someone already asked me why I'm only using a M100 spring. Simply enough, I like low-stress gearbox builds and I really don't see that ~15ft difference between the ~1.1J I should get vs. the ~1.4J I could optimize to being all too important. Is it maybe a bit silly to worry about stress on a V3? Maybe. Is that going to stop me? Nah. I've never tried the EMG Atlas buckings before but some people say they work quite well in a LCT, also just that they work quite well in general, so I'm pretty excited to try them out. If they don't then I'll just use the G&G Blue I ordered. Those parts will be going in on the weekend of December 14, I'll be taking the gun to Mercer Airsoft Center (the closest field) to test it all out the weekend after, and then it should be good to go for GGP Snowblind in February? ---------------------------------------------------------------- DECEMBER 12TH, 2024| -------------------- With most-all of the parts in, I redid my barrel/hop setup and used a spare stock LCT motor to test things out. It works! It just isn't entirely done yet, the Paragon motor still needs to arrive...
