---------------------------------------------------------------- CDP1802's Hi-Point 995TS ---------------------------------------------------------------- Pistol-caliber carbines are something that I'm always a little conflicted on. They're a load of fun to shoot, I fell in love with the Cx4 Storm I got to shoot when I was a kid, but they're also never going to see "use" outside the range. That said, it's not too hard to justify buying a range toy when it's cheap. ---------------------------------------------------------------- In January of '23 I was going to work in a real crappy snowstorm which meant leaving two hours early and showing up 45 before I could clock in. Just down the road is a small gun shop, one I usually don't hit up because their "politics everywhere" thing is a bit off-putting to me but figured I may as well go browse through. I saw a decent bit of neat stuff at that shop, a KUSA Vepr-12 caught my eye, but I only had about $500 on me to "play around with". Revising where I was looking, next to a bunch of 10/22s and the fairly new Winchester Wildcats, I saw a pair of Hi-Point 995s. I thought the TS looked kinda cool, the guy behind the counter told me that they're a bit dumb but extremely reliable, and they said it could be mine for $100. Why not? ---------------------------------------------------------------- I kept my 995TS in the original stock for a whole two months before figuring I should get a little silly. I learned of HTA not two weeks after getting the gun, their MBS-95 bullpup kit somewhat appealed to me, and a few weekends worked later I had some spare cash which went towards said kit in OD Green. I'm a pretty big fan of the HTA kit. It's fairly ergonomic, the HK-like charging handle is pleasant to run, the trigger ain't all too bad, the magazine release is pleasant, and the secondary safety is quite nice to have. The only thing I could say I want is the possible double-stack magazines they talked about making available. As the HTA kit has no sights, my current solution is a Primary Arms red dot on a cheap riser. It's dialed-in for 50 yards and the gun does a damn fine job hitting at that range without issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I've put about 3,000 rounds through the thing, mainly Magtech steel-case 115gr since that's cheap to feed the gun, and I don't see myself getting rid of it any time soon. It's just too much fun to give to people, watching their reaction is a load of fun. ---------------------------------------------------------------- PICTURES: Stock 995TS - Mar. 13 2024 HTA Kit - Mar. 9 2024 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Back ----------------------------------------------------------------
