CDP1802's Firearm Stuff

pew pew bang bang

I've been handling firearms for most of my life.

I grew up in rural PA, the land of the Christmas tradition of hunting using flintlock rifles. I've been shooting centerfire firearms since I was in elementary school, black powder since I was in middle school. I also grew up in the 2000s, a time where first-person shooters were super popular. Call of Duty 4, Counter Strike Source, Crysis, Half Life 2, and Team Fortress 2 were huge to me. It feels only natural that I've taken a liking to firearms.

I like finding things that I find interesting, getting them in firing condition, firing them, and appreciating the mechanisms of them. The tinkering led to a mild addiction to parts kits, I used to buy up tons but prices are all higher nowadays so I don't get them as often. Nowdays I just get a few things a year, usually milsurps or funky mechanisms or flintlocks, and I just have fun with them.

I don't have many "goals" related to firearms. I'd like to be able to take the little .22LR rifle out and be somewhat accurate with it, the idea of making little steel plates ring with all ten shots seems neat. I'd also kinda sorta like to learn how to properly fire handguns 'cause I've always sucked with them. Maybe some day I'd like to try making a design of my own? Nothing that would get sold, just a one-off for me to feel proud about. I've re-welded and assembled so many designs that other people made, being able to say I welded and assembled my own design would be cool.

I guess since it's a hobby of mine I'd like to document the various things I get as I get them. That can all go down here.

I also play around with replica firearms, notably airsoft guns.

I've been playing with airsoft guns for about as long as I've been shooting real guns, they started off as a much-less-scary way for me to plink at stuff because there was no recoil or loud bang. Around 2012 or 2013 I started actually playing airsoft, there was a local indoor arena that I'd go to once or so a month, and when I started driving I also started going to events by promoters like MilSim West, OLC, and Omega Productions.

I'm currently taking things "easy" when it comes to playing airsoft. I cut back on my collection of replicas a lot, I'm mainly going to games put on by Gun Gamers, and while I'd like to go to a local field once a month there really just isn't much within two hours.

The next event I'll be going to is Snowblind, we're looking at getting up to a whole squad of people for the Gojyrian 10th Penal Brigade LARP unit and having some fun with it.

Some chatting in the GGP Discord server led to fellow inmate and cheese enjoyer 00720 mentioning the following: "Guns don't matter too much, like I'm using "criminal" type weapons from now on. Anything that fits the vibe of, your scum and in jail and the lowest of the soldiers works. So bullshit like a Tec-9 the MOC granted a release to you works fine". I may open a project page soon about drafting a Stoner 63 Automatic Rifle/Bren-inspired design of some sort. It seems like a fun idea to run an "improvised weapon" for a game.
