CDP1802's Famicom
----------------------------------------------------------------
I'm a sucker for small, cheap systems with lots to do and lots
more still being made. Does anything match that description
better than the Nintendo Famicom?

I've been familiar with the NES for years now, it was one of the
first systems I ever played games on. My parents would take my
brothers and I to church on Sunday, then to my grandparents
house right after. The adults would watch the football game, us
kids would play Mario/Duck Hunt/Ninja Gaiden/Hogan's Alley in
the other room on the old TV.

I got my first Famicom in something like 2014. It was $30 at a
convention with a game. I only owned a handful of cartridges,
Kirby was my initial love and then I had to track down Getsu
Fuuma Den after seeing it in Castlevania HD. A few years of
owning it later and it got A/V modded, a few years after that
and I gave it away to a friend who really wanted to own one.

I got my second Famicom in 2021. It came pre-A/V modded and with
five games from Japan for a whopping $20, quite the deal if I
say so myself! I got some more cartridges, I had kept Kirby and
Getsu Fuuma Den knowing that I would still want to play them in
the future, and I even got a disk system this time around. I had
it for a year or two and then, once again, I gave it away to
another friend who wanted one.

I got my third Famicom in 2024. Once again it's pre-A/V modded
and with a disk system, once again I still have Kirby and Getsu
Fuuma Den, and once again I got some more cartridges.

Here's a picture of the current setup:

Something I'm trying this go-around is a flash cartridge. I
don't exactly want to drop the cash on a full Everdrive N8 Pro
right now so, to start, I'm trying some Aliexpress clone that
ran a whopping $20. Hopefully it's good? Whenever I get the
thing in, presumably around Christmas '24, I'll have to update
this page with my impressions and whatever quirks I find.
