CDP1802's Power Macintosh 4400/200
----------------------------------------------------------------
Wanting to "graduate" from 68K Macs, PowerPC was the obvious
next step in the grand scheme of things to try out. There was
just one issue: Which model did I want?

I've never been a fan of Spindler-era plastics, they're just
kinda junky these days, so my decision wasn't actually very hard
after finding out that the Power Macintosh 4400 existed. A Mac
with a zippy little 603e in an AT PC case? How could I say no?
----------------------------------------------------------------
I bought my first 4400 in mid-2024 and it sadly arrived dead.
The little Rayovac 4.5V battery pack leaked absolutely
everywhere, things up to the RAM slots and over to the PCI riser
got hit by corrosion, and it was just too much for me to be
repair.

I bought my second 4400, plus a spare 4400 board to hopefully
revive the first 4400, two months after the first. They came in
the day I write this first page revision, lucky me both are in
good shape!
----------------------------------------------------------------
I can't do much with these systems at the moment, I need to get
a 4.5V battery to replace the original pack (I'm thinking a 3x
AA pack velcro'd to the outside of the case maybe?) else they
won't even boot, but once those are in I'll start getting
software installed.

December 9, 2024:

I ordered a pack of four 3xAA battery holders, two of which will
be going to fix up these two 4400s. I now realize that one is
missing any sort of hard disk, I don't know if the disk that
came in the other works or not. I guess we'll find out!
