---------------------------------------------------------------- CDP1802's Main PC ---------------------------------------------------------------- I always write about old computers on here but never my "daily driver" system. Why not talk about it here too? The current spec is as-follows: CPU: Intel i9-10850K RAM: 64GB of DDR4-3200 Storage: * 1TB Samsung 970 EVO * 4TB FIKWOT FS810 * 500GB Crusial MX500 * 2x 4TB WD Blue 5400RPM GPU: GeForce RTX 3080 (ASUS) IDE: Startech PEX2IDE Serial: Startech PEX4S553 Video Capture: IO-DATA GV2USB Case: NZXT H510i ---------------------------------------------------------------- My current system was built in December of 2021, the best of times to be spending money on PC components! I joke with that statement, new parts and GPUs were surely being scapled to hell and back - I'm very happy I haven't had to compete with crypto weirdos to buy parts since then - but not everything was impossible to get as long as you were willing to look at more "normal" shops. Amazon had a serious sale on the 10850Ks, I wasn't going to pay the same money for a gen-old Ryzen because that would be stupid so it was the pick. 32GB kits of DDR4 were available at Best Buy for MSRP, I couldn't say no to that! Stuff like that. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I have one major complaint with the system: I hate the case. NZXT used to be a company I loved when it comes to cases, my first PC case was a NZXT Phantom with something like seven 3.5" drive bays and five 5.25" drive bays. It had a lot of room for my cables, I didn't have to go through flattening cable ties to get the rear access panel on. I decided I'd get one of their newer offerings without looking into exactly what they're like now, I didn't realize that their new stuff is just cramped boxes more for the vibes than being able to fit all my stuff, and I wasn't exactly happy but I dealt with it. ---------------------------------------------------------------- So far, since everything holds up for what I do, I don't see myself upgrading the specs themselves any time soon. I have a new case on the way, a Thermaltake Core W200, which I'm considering moving this rig into. The idea of buying that monster of a case was taking advantage of the sheer amount of drive space, I'd like to retire my NAS R710 for something that draws less power, while also holding a box stuffed with drives set up for archiving media. Internal Greaseweazle connected to a 3.5" and 5.25" floppy drive, a good CD and 4K Blu-Ray drive, a soundcard with a better line-in than my motherboard for ripping records and tapes, all that stuff. I could just use the guts from this system in there, repurpose the NZXT case into something goofy like an ATX64 or one of those ATX S100 boxes, and just go build a small LAN gaming rig for when I have to go to people's houses... ---------------------------------------------------------------- Return to the Systems page ----------------------------------------------------------------
